It’s not everyone who gets selected to be an Olympic Torchbearer. After several decades of developing, improving, and teaching techniques in time management, organization, setting priorities, increasing productivity and reducing stress, Laura Hellenthal Segura offers consulting to organizations which could benefit from the vital skills necessary for leadership development and change. As executive director of the National Teen Leadership (NTLP) program for the past 18 years, Segura doubled regional participation within one year and received numerous awards, including the Excellence in Education award from Senator Barbara Boxer. Her efforts made such an impact that she was honored to carry an Olympic torch for the summer 2002 Olympics. The program boasts over 8000 alumni, an active alumni association and 16 college-graduate alumni that serve on NTLP Board of Directors.

Before NTLP, Segura worked as Director of Advertising and Account Executive for industry publications such as Sacramento Magazine and The California Manufacturer’s Association. She also spent over 10 years in the travel division of American Express Hawaii and Los Angeles, where she worked as a meeting planner and was responsible for negotiating contracts, planning large-scale meetings, and increasing visibility.

As the Chief Operating Officer for NTLP, Ms. Segura has planned and operated leadership programs for over 8000 high school-age youth. The program boasts at 25% return rate EVERY year, with many attendees returning 3, 4 and even 5 times. In 2008, NTLP was excited to welcome the daughter of an alumni who attended in 1994 and who still participates on staff. After 18 years of working with teens, Segura has her pulse on what motivates today’s youth and is energized by their motivation and drive to succeed.

Segura has been a member of the California Association of Directors of Activities (CADA), National Association of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE, youth in philanthropy committee), and Linking Education and Economic Development of Sacramento (LEED, Total Quality implementation team). She is an ongoing presenter for the Rotary. Soroptimist and other civic clubs and will travel to speak on her beloved NTLP at the drop of a hat.

Laura lives in El Dorado Hills with her husband, Sal, their dog and two cats. She is the proud mother of daughter, Michele and friend/Stepmom to Sal’s children, Ernesto and Laura.

NTLP does not push any political or religious agenda. We are open to all teens of all faiths, all ethnicities, all gender preferences, all GPA’s; college bound, trade school bound, don’t know where bound, high school, home school, life school. ALL Teens!

NTLP provides a safe and comfortable environment! Our goal? To get you motivated! To help you make a difference! To change the world!

It’s NOT just a weekend…it’s your legacy!
